The Episcopal Center for Renewal for the Diocese of Dallas and Fort Worth

Community Contract and Guidelines

In order to have the best possible Happening for the Participants and Staff members, we as individuals and as a community understand and agree to the following rules and guidelines.  The staff reserves the right to take disciplinary action toward any person who does not abide by this covenant, including asking them to leave the weekend.  Please read through the following information carefully and prayerfully before signing.

1.                  Please have enough respect for the church building/s and their surroundings so as not to damage anything.  Participants will be held financially responsible for damages that they incur.

2.                  No leaving the Happening community.  “Community” includes leaving designated buildings at any time and not being present at large group meetings and small group meetings, meals and worship without the express permission of the Rector and the Staff Mom and Dad. Once someone leaves the Happening, they may NOT return to the weekend.

3.                  Youth team and participants who drive their own cars to the church must turn in keys at registration.

4.                  No participant will be released prior to the close of the Happening without a parent signing a release form when they come to pick up the participant.  If participant has driven their own car, the Staff Mom and Dad must talk with their parents before releasing the participant’s keys.  If question of legal guardianship arises, consent is required from both parents.

5.                  Participants take a responsibility for themselves by dressing appropriately.  Proper dress includes not wearing any clothes that will expose undergarments of any kind (bras, boxers etc.)  Girls, please be aware that tank tops, shirts with spaghetti straps and short tops that expose the stomach are not appropriate attire for a Happening.  It is not appropriate for boys to wear baggy pants that do not come up to their waist and expose their boxer shorts or to wear tank tops.  You may be asked to change clothes if it is decided by the Happening Moms and Dads that what you are wearing is inappropriate.  Remember that this is a weekend to grow closer to our Lord, Jesus Christ, and not a fashion show.

6.                  Cell phones, radios, recorders, tape and C.D. players, TVs, electronic and video games, skate boards, roller skates & blades, etc. tend to be a distraction to the individual and to others and are to be left at home.  If they are brought, they will be secured and kept safe by the sponsors.

7.                  Show consideration and respect for others at the Happening.  Lights out, quiet times and worship are a few examples of when to demonstrate your thoughtfulness.  Offensive language is not considerate or respectful to the community.

8.                  Alcohol, illegal drugs, artificial stimulants (Vivarin, NoDoze, etc.), and abuse of over-the-counter drugs are detrimental to a Happening atmosphere and will not be tolerated.

9.                  The use of tobacco products of any kind is not allowed.

10.              Persons will not be allowed in the opposite sex designated sleeping areas during the lights-out time.  Inappropriate displays of affection or sexual activity will not be permitted.

11.              We are a community of Christians.  As such, we will treat each other as Christ instructs us, with love, respect and charity.

12.              The purpose of the Happening weekend is to grow closer to God through Jesus Christ and to develop a personal relationship with God.  As a community focused on Christ, and understanding the many different faces of our Church, we covenant to refrain from discussing potentially divisive topics or the politics of the church.

“Jesus said, ‘The first commandment is this: The Lord our God is the only Lord.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.  The second is this:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  There is no other commandment greater than these.’     Mark 12:29-31

I have read and understand the above rules and pledge to abide by them.  All adult and youth staff and participants should read, sign and return.
